What's deliberately absent: ratings, review counts, years in business we couldn't verify on the company's own site, insurance or licensing claims about anyone else, and any ordering that implies quality. The list is alphabetical. We have not hired these companies and have no basis to rank them.

How to choose a plumber for water heater work
Water heater work has a few specifics worth screening for beyond general plumbing competence.
License, and the permit that follows from it. Texas licenses plumbers through the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners, and you can check any license on the state's free public lookup. In San Antonio there's a second filter: to pull your permit, a plumber must have registered that state license with the city's Development Services department, which requires current insurance on file. So "are you pulling the permit?" is really two questions in one.
Whether they quote itemized. A single number at the bottom of a page tells you nothing. Equipment, labor, materials, permit, and haul-away should each be visible.
Whether the expansion tank is in the quote. Texas code requires one on a replacement. If it's not listed, either it's being skipped or it's about to become a surprise line.
Whether they'll say "don't replace it." The most useful plumber is the one who tells you a $120 flush buys three more years. That answer costs them money, which is exactly why it's worth something.
Questions worth asking before you hire

- Is the expansion tank included?
- Are you replacing the shutoff valve and supply connectors, or reusing them?
- What's the warranty on the unit, and separately on your labor?
- Is haul-away of the old tank included?
- If this is a repair — what's the diagnostic fee, and does it come off the repair if I go ahead?
